Since 1997, SimCraft has pioneered a unique architecture for motion simulation, accurately replicating how vehicles move in racing and flight simulator applications. By closely mirroring Earth physics, SimCraft has developed a motion simulator approach that enhances fidelity for high-end applications and fosters broader adoption of motion simulation in race, aviation, and driving simulators. Whether a SimCraft product has one degree of freedom or all six, the simulation experience feels natural because it faithfully follows real-world vehicle dynamics along six degrees of freedom.
SimCraft’s motion simulators operate on the principle that all vehicles rotate and translate around their center of mass (CoM). This ensures a realistic simulation by mimicking real-world vehicle behavior.
By aligning the CoM with the center of rotation, SimCraft’s systems achieve rotational equilibrium and minimize the moment of inertia. This design requires minimal torque for motion changes, resulting in zero perceived latency and a natural, seamless experience.
In SimCraft motion systems, the entire cockpit moves within an independent axis motion system, covering up to six degrees of freedom: Roll, Pitch, Yaw, Surge (front to back), Sway (left to right), and Heave (up and down). This design keeps the driver’s position relative to the controls constant, ensuring a realistic simulation experience.
The interactive user and controls move together in SimCraft systems, maintaining the relative positions of the driver, steering wheel, shifter, and pedals. This setup accurately simulates weight transfer, track camber, and terrain elevations. The visual system also moves with the cockpit, preserving the driver’s constant relationship with visual cues.
SimCraft employs proprietary rotational and linear bearing systems for frictionless motion, supporting the cockpit and occupant’s weight. This design ensures actuators handle only system inertia, providing high-fidelity motion response.
The motion systems use these bearing assemblies for smooth rotations and linear movements. Electromechanical actuators, chosen for their efficiency and precision, ensure immediate response to control inputs.
SimCraft’s architecture guarantees mechanical separation of each degree of freedom, ensuring isolated and independent control. This design prevents interference between motions, enabling precise and realistic simulations.
SimCraft’s software interfaces seamlessly with racing and flight simulations, ensuring perfect synchronization between controls, visuals, and motion with physics data extraction in under 1ms. The software allows real-time adjustments, motion profile management, and supports extensive customization via an API and SDK. CraftCon, the control panel, provides easy access to interface management, updates, and documentation.
After experiencing the SimCraft APEX6, I was amazed by its realistic feel and immediately knew I was hooked. I was even left wondering how such authenticity was achieved, given that nothing else I’ve tried can match the real-world vehicle experience, regardless of price. SimCraft takes driver training and vehicle development to an entirely new level.
